Fresh Tomato and Basil Sauce


 

Hello, there people! It has been a while since I posted anything on the website! This weekend, I am coming back with multiple recipes to catch up on the time lost!


I recently bought fresh aromatic plants, and am harvesting them myself. I got basil, coriander, parsley and chives. So with all of those I decided to make a homemade tomato and basil sauce.


Ingredients for a jar like in the photo:

  1. Five tomatoes

  2. One red onion

  3. 10 leaves of fresh basil

  4. Salt, pepper

  5. Sugar

  6. 2 cups of water

Steps:

  1. In a pan, put oil and butter, let it heat up, add your chopped onion and let it get a golden-like colour.

  2. Chop the tomatoes however you want to, once the oil and butter has a golden-like colour, add the tomatoes.

  3. Let it sit for about five minutes, stir from time to time to avoid any burning.

  4. Add the first cup of water and stir it. Add two pinches of salt and one pinch of pepper

  5. Add a tbsp of sugar

  6. Wait five more minutes and then add the second cup of water. Lower the heat and put a lid on. Let it sit for 10 minutes, then come back and stir it a bit.

  7. Taste and if you have to, add salt or sugar.

  8. If you have a hand mixer, take it and mix the tomatoes, if you don't put it in a blender but be careful to not blend it too much to have some bit of tomatoes.

  9. Put it back on low heat, add the basil and let it sit for 10 minutes.

Before putting your sauce in the jar let it cool down a bit, and wait for the sauce to be lukewarm before putting it in the fridge.
